Running-cost calculator

How much does a hot tub cost to run in Spain?

A hot tub's cost is really about keeping the water hot, not the time you spend in it. The heater (often 1,500 to 6,000 watts) and circulation pump cycle on and off around the clock to hold temperature, so the running total depends heavily on how many hours a day they actually run — which in turn depends on the cover, the air temperature and the set temperature. Use the hours field to reflect daily heating and circulation time. A good cover and a slightly lower set temperature are the biggest savers.

kWh/day = (W / 1000) × hours
cost/month = kWh/day × (days/week ÷ 7) × 30.44 × rate
cost/year = kWh/day × (days/week ÷ 7) × 365.25 × rate

The cost is keeping the water hot, not using it — a good cover and a slightly lower set temperature save the most.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a hot tub cost to run in Spain?

Very variable, but a unit whose heater and pump run about 6 hours a day at 1,500 W costs on the order of €1.70 a day — around €50 a month — at an all-in rate near €0.19/kWh. Poor insulation or cold weather pushes it higher.

How can I lower hot tub running costs?

Keep a well-fitting insulated cover on it, drop the set temperature a degree or two, and heat during cheaper off-peak hours where your tariff allows.
